• ANGELS IN OUR MIDST
The biblical character Ruth is described as devoted and dedicated. She diligently worked the fields to provide for her widowed mother-in-law. So, when we went to meet the members of the "Ruth Circle", it is not surprising that we found them hard at work. Elsie Cummings, Ruth Circle Member; "These caps that we make for the cancer patients and or anyone who's had brain surgery, something like that, to where they've lost their hair, we give these." Fashionable colors, lightweight cotton material, easy to wear... Elsie Cummings knows firsthand how important these things are. Elsie; "I had cancer in 1990 and lost my hair. I know myself, that wigs are hot and they itch. And ballcaps, they really don't do anything for you." So, the members of the Ruth Circle At Warrington Presbyterian Church are doing as their namesake did, coming to the aid of women. Joanne Adams, Ruth Circle Member; "That was her way of expressing her love was to go out and gleen the fields. Well, we don't gleen fields anymore but we do have this opportunity to provide service in this way toward these people who are sick and need a little joy in their lives." And like Ruth, they have been faithful in their commitment. Elsie; "We had given 999 caps since April of 2004." Debbie McLemore, Ruth Circle Member; "We just have a great time doing it. I'm a cutter. I cut them out. I don't sew." They provide the caps to the three Pensacola hospitals and to anyone who needs them. While they study Ruth in bible class, they go about her works out in the field. Elsie; "All of the material is donated, all of the labor is donated and we give them out. There's absolutely no cost to anyone." Joanne; "Faith is not meaningful if it doesn't show itself in works and that's what we're trying to do; express our love in works."
