• ANGELS IN OUR MIDST
The heads of most non-profit organizations will tell you that volunteers are their lifeline.

They bring every level of skill and interest and there's a place for every one of them.

We met one volunteer who found her place a quarter century ago...And she's still An Angel In Our Midst.

When I quit working, I thought, well, I've got to do something. And I was in here one day and I thought, yeah, I'd like that.

That day was 25 years ago. And almost every Wednesday since then, Marilyn Shuel has volunteered at the Dove Gift Shop In The Lobby Of West Florida Hospital.

Marilyn Shuel, Dove Gift Shop Volunteer; I love it here, I really do. I look forward to coming in every Wednesday. You meet wonderful people here in the hospital. You hear a lot of tragic stories but then some happy ones.

No matter what the story, Marilyn is quick to share a comforting word and a smile. Many of her customers are looking for just the right gift for a loved one or friend who is ill. She also knows that every dollar made here is making a difference.

Donna Fassett, ARC Gateway; ARC Gateway serves children and adults in our community who have developmental disabilities.

All the proceeds from this gift shop support the programs and services at ARC Gateway. So, it's not only helping immediately the customer, but it's also helping long term.

That gives her work and her life purpose; something she believes everyone can benefit from.

Marilyn; Get out and volunteer. No matter what your interest is, find it and just give something back. It's a great feeling.

Donna; She's incredible. 25 years is such a long commitment for someone to say, I believe in this shop; I believe in the purpose of it and what it's doing.

And it doesn't hurt that she's a woman who loves to shop herself.

Marilyn; Uh huh. It costs me money to volunteer here. Laugh.

   •  WATCH THE WEATHER

We've seen heavy rain throughout the morning hours Friday, and the rainfall will continue through the afternoon. The heaviest rain will be gone by noon, but light to moderate rainfall will continue. By Friday night the rain will be gone. Saturday and Sunday look very nice, with highs in the lower 80s all weekend and lots of sunshine. ~Christian Garman
