•  HURRICANE GUIDE - WATCHES/WARNINGS ISSUANCE

When A Hurricane Watch Is Issued:

  • When a tropical storm or hurricane watch is issued, tropical storm or hurricane conditions are possible within 36 hours. This is the time to do last minute preparations for the approaching storm.
  • Monitor storm reports on Channel 3 News.
  • Bring in lawn furniture, trash cans, potted plants and other loose objects in your yard that could become flying projectiles in high winds.
  • If you plan on evacuating, know your evacuation route and consider leaving before an order is issued.
  • Keep your automobile with a full tank of gas.
  • Anchor small boats or move them to a safe area.

When A Hurricane Warning Is Issued:

  • When a tropical storm or hurricane warning is issued, conditions are expected within 24 hours. All preparations should be completed and evacuations may be in order.
  • Listen constantly to storms progress on Channel 3 News.
  • Board or shutter windows and glass doors.
  • Turn refrigerators and freezers to highest setting. Freeze water in plastic jugs and use them to fill empty space to keep food cool.
  • If you live on high ground away from coastal beaches consider riding out the storm. Put supplies and irreplaceable items in a central part of your home away from windows and doors. Pad the area with mattresses to protect you and your family during the storm.
  • Fill clean sinks and tubs with water for bathing and sanitary purposes.
  • Remain indoors during the storm at all times.
