Economic Stimulus: Do you agree with an economic stimulus plan that would send most taxpayers a check for 600-dollars?
Comment: another way to take money from taxpayers and give it to those not paying taxes. from Navarre by Eugene
Comment: Just like Ammendment #1, I believe this little feel good "shot" will hurt the economy in the long run - perhaps even fueling inflation. from Cantonment, FL by David
Comment: I worked all my life until I was injured several years back,I am now on SOCIAL SEC. DISABILITY, I will get nothing but could really use it! from robertsdale,al by mike
Comment: We need to boost our economy. We make the Economy. We will spend this money to help ourselves Thus, helping the economy.Everybody wins!! from pensacola,fl by james
Comment: Printing money whenever you want it is bad practice and undermines the American economy. Vote Ron Paul!! from Pensacola, Fl by Jim
Comment: I think we should stop spending tax dollars overseas on people who don't like us, want us or appreciate us and spend the money here where we need it to boost economy and take care of healthcare matters.
Comment: I think its a good idea especially since by the time they cut the checks we will be needing money to put gas in our cars to get to work to make money to pay our rising bills. We all know those gas prices will go up again when summer hits. from Pensacola FL by K
Comment: Yes it is a good idea. It's our money and taxes need to come down. Any refund given, are way over due. Taxes keep going up but people's pay rates are not keeping up with inflation. They still need to do much more by lowering or tax rates on everything from a to z. from Fort Walton Beach by Gary
Comment: Putting our country deeper in debt than we are already just doesn't make any sense to me. from Crestview, FL by Shirley
Comment: I'll take any amount of money the government wants to give out and as far as the national debt, well being in debt is just the "American Way"! from Pensacola, Fl by Jimmy
Comment: The problem with the stimulus plan is that once people spend their money it's gone, and the people are no better off. while most people will use it to pay bills, it is not enough money to make a rent or mortgage payment. the rebates would stimulate the economy better if given to bussinesses that agree to use it in certain ways, like making more jobs available, or to entice them to keep jobs in the USA instead of moving them overseas. from Pensacola, FL by Andria
Comment: I do belive this could be a great idea to stop this big ressecion that could come upon us especialy if President Bush is right about his prediction. from Crestview,FL by Colton
Comment: yes, because it would help everyone,no because it increase our debt from Jay,Fl. by Barbara
Comment: In your question you refer to "tax rebate" which implies that we will keep the money just like the 'rebate' on our new computer. I have Googled for information on this with no real luck. My guess would be that this will work like the $300 we got back in 2001, an advance credit on 2008 taxes. If you cash your $600 check and you are due a $600 'tax refund' at the end of the year you will get nothing or if you owe $400 at the end of the year you will now owe $1,000. It would be a service to the public for this to be explained in some detail.
As for the growing deficit, don't forget that many of the additional costs of the wars are also not counted against the "official deficit". from Pensacola by Guy
Comment: In the first place, the U.S. government cannot afford it, secondly, the money will be "hoarded" for the most part. and thirdly, the whole concept of resession/inflation is all a bunch of psychological nonsense anyway. I'm a military retiree, and granted the terms never had that much of an effect on me while I was on active duty, but from my eyes all I see is the use of the terminology to create mass hysteria. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom

Comment: More paper backed by nothing creates more debt. Does Bush think we are morons? Listen to Ron Paul if you want to stimulate the economy. from Pensacola, FL by Art
Comment: I agree with the rebates. Prices are so high that we need a break but I didn't think I would ever say this but I agree with Pelosi and the Democrats on this one. It doesn't go far enough and I think food stamps should be included also. Food prices are outrageous and it would help the poor and the disabled to be more a part of stimulating the economy. They want people to spend the money from the rebate but some people won't do that but with the food stamps, you HAVE to eat and they will get spent and the disabled, who need it more, won't be getting any rebates but they forget that we pay taxes also. from Pensacola by Darlene
Comment: The stimulus package President Bush is proposing, in my opinion, will have little or no affect on what no one seems to want to say but are more than willing to speculate on. And that is the FACT that we are IN a recession. the only thing that will change the economy at this point, is the Nov 2nd primary. To many people are simply afraid to spend money that they don't seem to have. from Pensacola by Chuck
Comment: No, Not a good idea. from Pensacola FL by Jim
Comment: This rebate will bring up our national debt greater than it is now. I also think that once the people get the money, most of it will be put in savings or used to pay off Christmas spending or other bills. After they use the money, they will be broke again. from Milton by Sonja
Comment: I think that the rebate is a good idea because I believe that our tax dollars are very much misused. We work so that others can have the money we work for. I am not against paying taxes at all but there should be a limit on what OUR money is used for and should be better regulated. We have roads and highways that are still waiting to be finished and meanwhile we have stores of all sorts popping up on every corner that a majority of us consumers don't shop at because the prices are too high or we just simply can't afford to. So in turn, building those stores makes no difference if the roads are too difficult to travel to get to them and if we had more money to spend we could shop at those stores and put money back into the economy. Where do the school tax dollars go? I pay nearly $80.00 a month for my 2 kids to eat lunch and not to mention all the other fees and expenses that are required IF you want your child to stay involved in school functions and activities. It's not about the children anymore, it's all about the money. If my child runs out of lunch money, she is not fed that day. She is sent to the office, they call me and tell me there's no money in her account and ask if I can come all the way across town from work to give her $2.00 or she can't eat. I mean come on!! I understand that some may take advantage of charging meals but when you ALWAYS pay your childs lunch up front and for at month then why go through so much trouble and make that child miss a meal all for $2.00? I believe in "Limits" and yeah if the child has already charged 3 meals with written reminders to the parent then maybe that would be a cause to call and ak the parent to come to the school so the child can eat but the "No Charge" policy that they have is absolutely rediculous. We need good people running our communities and our Country and not greedy ones. from Cantonment by Lynn
Comment: Flooding the economy with these funds will boost revenue for many elements of business and end up increasing tax revenues. from Pensacola by Hal
Comment:
The majority of the money will be spent for china products.Every american is indeted to them for 4000 dollars. Maybe they could give each american 900.00.This would reduce the 4000 to approx.3100 dollars. from navarre fl by pat
Comment: its good but there should be better paying jobs the goverment is putting us in resession from pensacola FL by randy
Comment: Give those checks out-- its politics not a solution- and the problem is still there.WE need to focus on extending unemployment benefits as in the 70s when we were in a recession and no one would actually say we were.
Thousands will get a one time check and thousands who are laid off- businesses shut down etc... will have noting the next week to feed the children and migrate to wooded areas and under overpasses for their new home.
WE dont need a "spot election year bonus" we need to support people who have noting due to the very reason the checks may but cut under. The economy id in the crapper- a one time political check dont keep people alive. Our politicians need to get thier head screwed on straight as as a family living in a shack with no power, using what they can to survive --get the point.Until the economy quits getting freaked out including all your businesses who are laying off because everyone is waitng to see who will more than likly be President.
Take care of thousands upon thousands whos unemployment benifits have run out and those that may have 1 more unemployment check coming in- and cant sleep at night trying to figure it out.
Screw the political rebate- politics screwed up the economy-- its like a fire was set and now the fire setters are patting themselves on the back ( we will vote on it and screw the unemployed who have no benifits. No home-living in cars etc..
I have stronger language on the fruit cakes who think this "Tylenol check" is a long term goal...its a one 5 minute cash the check event----what the hell about tomorrow.
from Pensacola by David
Comment: It is plain out welfare and it cretaes nothing-jobs-anything.
Its like" take this asprin and you will be better- and come back in a couple of days and see me.I sympathize with those who need it-- but the expired unemployment benifits of thousands outweighs a i day fix. from Pensacola by Bart
Comment: $600, $1200, $6000, It doesn't matter how much, it's all "paper" money with no gold backing it. How about dismantling the entire IRS, now that would definately "stimulate" the economy and an unconstitutional taxation. from Pensacola,FL by Elizabeth
Comment: The nation is far beyound being broke and this will just lead to more deficit spending. Where will it end? Probably when we are like old Soviet Union. from Cantonment, Fl by Seldon
Comment: If we can dump/waste billions of dollars in Iraq, then keeping some of it for low income people in this country who will spend it is a good idea. What a country! from pensacola by w
Comment: i thinks its a bad idea cause .its going to help the people in the middle class and upper class and the lower class not going to do nothin for them ........think the lower class people is what needs it the most. the people that make over 50,000to 100,000 dont need no rebate help...if so they are liven beyond there means............... from pensacola by keith
Comment: Yes, It is good for China economy. from Bluwater Bay by Bruce
Comment: Yes, any tax break for me is a good one. I am a single mother of 2 children, work full time job. I only get child support on one child not that I haven't filed for child support on the other, but every dime counts for me and my children. Its not like I don't try. I am not living off of the state or government, and should get a tax break for just that purpose. from Brewton, AL by Susie
Comment: problem is it dont include disable vets from PENSACOLA/FL by DIXIE
Comment: I hear about a rebate for tax payers but what about folks like me that are on Social Security disability. We don't count in helping the economy from navarre Fl by charlie
Comment: I think the rebate is a good idea, because the taxes we pay out is a crime in it self and the government should give some of it back. However more intelligent people will use that money on bills instead of spending the money on material things. So at the same time it could be a bad idea. from Navarre by Jonny
Comment: No, I don't think this plan is a good idea. Where is the money going to come from that will be handed out?? Most probably foreign borrowed money. Further increasing deficit problem. No one has the guts, not Congress for sure to tighten our belts and come up with a livable economic recovery plan.....
from Crestview, Fl by Lewis
