Property taxes: Do you plan to vote for or against the property tax amendment on the Florida ballot?

60.31% I plan to vote AGAINST the amendment
38.09% I plan to vote FOR the amendment

Comment: I do not feel that the loss of the little property taxes will cause the local county/city governments to decrease the fire and police protection as they are stating. An other scare tactic by are local governments to get what they want. from Pensacola/fl by Neal

Comment: I plan to vote FOR the ammendments and the reasons are to many to discuss at this time. We keep giving and giving and giving the county monies for so called improvements and nothing seem to gets done. Mabey if our county leaders get a dose of reality and start fearing for their jobs -something might get done. We are over staffed in the Sherrifs Dept and the Fire Dept. should not be hindered. Population growth and this area has come to a stand still and people are moving out of Florida for less expensive cost of living states. from pace

Comment: People should vote NO on this scam bill. The projected savings are an insult to the citizens. This is Crit's effort to build himself a resume to run for a higher office when he leave's the Governor's office. Services will be deeply cut, for example the Sheriff's Office will lose over a hundered deputies. No telling how deeply Fire and Rescue will be cut. It is just a bad bill. from Pensacola by Bill

Comment: THere are many items included in this amendment - as only the legislature is allowed to do. If we voted on each item separately, then I could see thadvantage of it, but there is too much "pork" in this amendment. from Pensacola by Mary

Comment: At least it something. from Pace, FL. by Tom

Comment: I cannot support this law because of how it will affect the overall services for our communities and citizens. The amount I'd save in one year wouldn't make my monthly house payment. Crist is not living in a real world if he thinks this is a good law. I have to wonder, who thought this up and who is really going to profit, surely it is not the citizens. from Pensacola by Becky

Comment: Anything that will reduce the Senior's taxes even a little is a good thing. Must be some reason that people are opposing it, but darn if I can figure out why? You cannot sell property today because taxes and insurance have grown too large. We are not getting services in the county equal to what we are paying in taxes. from Pensacola FL by Elizabeth J

Comment: I'm voting no on this law because it really does not save me any money in the long haul. I can see how rich folks may benefit from it and that would fit into the Republican thought process; the rich get richer and the poor pay for it. A fire chief advised me he'd lose several men because of the loss of money. I police officer I spoke to said they know they'll lose some officers but don't know how many yet. A deputy I talked to said the Sheriff has warned his people that he will have to lay off everyone hired in the last year or two. So, save two or three hunderd dollars a year or lose hundred's of police officers and firemen? DA! from Pensacola by Tom

Comment: I think the scare tactics about fire and police services go too far and tend to sway uneducated voters, we will always have police and fire. I think it's time that our city and state government learn to cut back like the rest of us in these hard times, instead of spending more. I often wonder why the City of Pensacola needs a nice big boat and the Sheriffs Dept. needs two helicopters that costs hundreds of thousand to operate annually. It's time to get inflated government and taxes under control and let city and state government know that we do not give them a blank check to do what they want with. This tax issue should have been handled buy our legislators but they find it easier to hand it off for a vote that they realize might not pass and lets them off the hook.I believe that if this amendment passes you will begin to see the economy start to thrive. from Pensacola by Ray

Comment: Political Ploy. Let's vote it down and force them back to the table. from Destin, FL by Darryl

Comment: We need a better plan. People don't want to lose vital services and that is what county officials threaten. from Navarre/Florida by Susan

Comment: Firstly, I can't understand how I would save any money. I don't see anything about it when I read the amendment. Too many talking heads so it has to be good for the state and bad for the people. from Crestview, FL by James

Comment: I am voting against the amendment. The $170 to $250 in savings per homeowner is not worth giving up the services received - schools, county, etc. from Pace, Fla by Terry

Comment: I think it is a "smoke screen" and it will do anything but truly relieve the burden of homeowners. I also feel that it is not worth risking loosing the public safety services we've become accustomed to, and demand when conditions necessitate. We can't have our pie and eat it too. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom

Comment: Property tax increases will nullify the savings in a couple of years. Its not worth it. from Gulf Breeze by Don

Comment: Any break is better than no break . . . portability is important to us, since we plan to move and downsize for retirement. from Cantonment/FL by l

Comment: This amendment will not help anyone in the long run, even though Charlie Crist says it will. We will be voting against. from Fort Walton Beach, FL by Sylvia

Comment: I can use the money saved to help with getting gouged with outrageous insurance costs. from Pensacola by Stephen

Comment: It's about time the homeowners in this state got a break on taxes. The insurance industry has done a deal on us and the government did nothing about it, so this is one way to recoup a little of what we are paying for insurance. from Pensacola, FL by Janice

Comment: Any break that fixed income people can get is worth while, even if it's small. from Pns by Al

Comment: The portability measure is the most important part of the issue. It does allow homeowners to upgrade. from Pensacola/FL by David

Comment: If this amendment passes I have one question to ask, What will you do if your house catches on fire? I work in a fire dept and this is no government scare tactic, cuts WILL be made and people WILL lose their jobs! from Pensacola, Florida by Jimmy

Comment: pIn my neighborhood I don't see a Sheriff's Deputy on patrol. Cars speed, race, play radios full blast, nothing is done. So how bad can cuts be? Do not see them anyway! from Pensacola,Fl. by Kenneth

Comment: Our children's eduction is more important than the proposed meager property tax savings. If this amendment passes we, citizens, will pick up the tab for education--don't trust the legislature to fund education if the amendment passes. The gimmick is to a claim to take up the education budget AFTER the amendment passes. Do you want to fully fund schools through local property taxes? How much will property taxes increase under this amendment? My recommendation--DON'T DRINK THE WATER!!! from Pensacola FL 32505 by Myra & Warren

Comment: What really aggravates me is that no one takes the time to really explain what it's about. You see the governor's take on it but is it the accurate description?

Comment: The proposal is a short term fix for a long term problem. In seven years it will bite us again! from Gulf Breeze, Florida by Marie

Comment: I dont want see fire and police protection cut, been law enforcement for 30 yrs, we need more not less, belive me. from MIlton, FL by Larry

Comment: The whole thing is nothing but smoke and mirrors. It is a shaddy deal just like dealing with used car salesman. And yes, I have done my homework on this one. from Pensacola Florida by M
