Zoo Northwest Florida: Do you think local governments should help fund the Zoo Northwest Florida?
Comment: for many years the zoo has been misuseing donations we donate for gorillas and the money goes on safari with the quinns the animals look underfeed and the grounds are a mess. they won't pay their bills when they do have a bit of money. why keep donating?? and before the county bails them out they should ask themselves if the county is large enough to support a zoo that everyone else is fed up with from milton/florida by jeanette
Comment: In Escambia county we are penalized every month for a fee for other telephone usage. These recipients recieve free or supplemented telephone services from "our fees." No one besides the recipient receives usage from this, but if we could generate this money for the northwestern fl, zoo, everyone in the tri-county state area could enjoy this "fee." from Pensacola, Fl. by James
Comment: Zoo's all over the country receive some funding from the local or state government; the Zoo in Gulf Breeze has never received any govt. grant or funding; they deserve the small sum that they are seeking. from Navarre/FL by Heather
Comment: If partially funded by gov. sources, the price of entry should be lowered also. Its too expensive for many people. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Don
Comment: i believe the tri county area should share expenses in rebuilding what hurricane disasters have done for the zoo,as they all 3 benefit from tourisism and resident locals who visit the zoo. If the states would help fund repairs and put off the maritime park, the desire of the zoological society can then move forward with their plans to eventually purchase and control the future of the zoo, without government control. why does okaloosa and escambia not feel they benefit from tourism enough, yer round,by turning their backs on a big future of continuance income is beyond me. from milton by rhonda
Comment: Government absolutely should help fund the zoo. My family and many visitors have enjoyed the zoo over the years. The zoo is a wonderful attraction for tourists - not everyone wants to sit on the beach all day, it's nice to explore what our wonderful emerald coast can offer, and the zoo is a great day out for the whole family. from Niceville, FL by Lucy
Comment: Yes. I'd rather have some of
my tax money go to the zoo than a lot of other places.
The zoo is a great place to
take kids and people of all ages. The last time I was
there we had a lot of fun and
really enjoyed it. If they
close the zoo, it will be a
big step backward for the
Pensacola area. I'd rather
have the zoo than the Maritime
Baseball park. from Pensacola, FL by Lee
Comment: Glad to see the story that you did. We are in support of the zoo. So much so that we are putting together a fund raiser on eBay.
Also, trying to get CNN to take notice.

Comment: Most zoos receive governmental or community funding. I believe the tri-county area should step up to the plate. The ZOO is second only to the Naval Air Museum as a tourist attraction, which are desperately needed in this area. from Navarre, FL by Wendy
Comment: The educational benefits along with another tourist attraction besides our beautiful beaches can only help our area. We need this for our children and their children. The many visitors that visit the zoo here make many comments about how friendly and about getting to see more animals up close than other zoos. Nothing as large as a zoo can stand without funding and help from all the communities. What ever has happened in the past is over, but we can help improve the zoo with help and make it a wonderful asset to the community! from Gulf Breeze, FL by Anita
Comment: Yes, I believe the local governments should help the Zoo. I work at a Timeshare Resort and the Kids bug their parents to go there. It is something they look forward to doing while here on vacation from Mary Esther, FL by Alan
Comment: no times are hard
cut gas prices from pensacola by roger
Comment: Help us with the cost of gas and then maybe we could afford to drive to the Zoo. from Gulf Breeze by Susan
Comment: One Zoo helping another.
Sounds Fair. from Pensacola, Florida by Robin
Comment: The Zoo is an important cultural and entertainment facility. It is the only facility in South Santa Rosa County. It's a wonderful place! from Navarre, Florida by Verona
Comment: Local governments should definitely help the zoo!! It is a great establishment and it would be sad to see it go. from Fort Walton Beach, FL by Holly
Comment: I belive that they should fund it, because if they do help they will help animals out. i mean seriously you need to help take care of animals they are dying. they should not be dying. i love the zoo and i know alot of people do also. i belive that there should not be any reason for then to close the zoo. it is an amazing place to take the children and have a good time. it is a great place i would hate to see it go. from Pensacola, Florida by Amanda
Comment: No! Absolutely not! The county has recently laid inspectors from the building department and folks from the Sheriff's Department to save money! Is this the way they propose to spend their savings? If the vote does goes through, I want them to remember I'll be voting soon also...and I'll vote for someone to take their place! from Pace by Annanna
Comment: The Zoo is our best tourist attraction. It is very important educational tool for the children of our locallity. from gulf breeze by ronald
Comment: yes i think they should. we need the zoo to stay open so we all can take our families out to see the animals. from GULF BREEZE by REGINA
Comment: We must save this wonderful zoo at any cost from Navarre, Florida by Ely
Comment: I think the zoo should be closed. It should be a sin to cage animals like that in the middle of Florida scrub oaks where it is 100 degrees in the shade. Those animals are not being cared for properly and it was reported on your station how many have died recently. Close the zoo and take those poor animals to a real zoo where they can be properly cared for. from Pensacola by Alan
Comment: we pay for the needs of humans with our tax money, so why not take care of the GB Zoo. this is a clean form of entertainment for everyone. from pensacola, florida by donna
Comment: Yes The Navarre Zoo needs the funds to keep the Zoo Open. The Zoo is future
from Navarre FL by Jason
Comment: I think the tri-county area should help fund the zoo. However, I think they should mandate the zoo lower their admission price. This might increase business. from Pensacola, FL by April
Comment: they need to stop paying the workers and spend the money on maintenence for the zoo! the zoo should be ran by volunteers!! from gulfbreeze fl by austin
Comment: Yes, they should help fund the zoo. Who helps their schools with the education, from pre-K through college? If you check other area zoos, most of them are partially or totally suported and run by local government. A zoo is something education does not need to be without. from Gulf Breeze, AR by P.A.
Comment: they need money and a new director, I could step up to the plate and run this facility way better than it is getting ran now... They just don't understand how to manage this facility correct!!! from Pensacola by Tina
Comment: I think the zoo northwest Florida is a great zoo for adults, kids and tourist. It provides Zoo camp for local kids and has endangered species. from gulf breeze.fl by deborah
Comment: Yes the local governments should help fund the zoo. It is a wonderful tool for summer learning and gives children a chance to see animals that they would only see in books. If we can take care of people after storms and during hard times, then we should be able to take care of the animals too. from Pensacola by Ann
Comment: The zoo is a NW Florida venue that needs local government funding from all surrounding counties so it can continue operating. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Barry
Comment: this zoo does a great job providing culture, conservation, education and entertainment. It would be a shame to loose it as it could never be replaced
There would be a lot of disappointed kids if it were lost. from Gulf Breeze Fl by Jerry
Comment: Every community needs a zoo and most city/county governments help in one way or another to support the zoo. from Pensacola, FL by Clara
Comment: there are alot more problems in the governmental infrastructure that need fixing around here before that money goes to the zoo...road repairs, better funding for education, more police presence, etc...the zoo is a luxury that many larger cities have...not in a little place that is stagnant in job growth, education, and economy...if the money should be found to keep the zoo open...they should be asking the people that want to keep status quo...since they are the ones with money and are not willing to share their piece of the the "pie" from p'cola by h
Comment: I strongly believe the area government should totally fund the ZOO. Most other zoos are both funded and run by local government, totally. This one is so popular, it has been holding its own through the locals and tourist trade, except when it was hit by all the hurricanes and their insurance wouldn't cover it. Look how many schools send bus loads of kids there all the time to learn, as part of their curiculum. Look at how many organizations count on the Zoo Camps and ZooTots. The Zoo needs to stay open for everyone's benefit! from Navarre, FL 32566 by Phyllis
Comment: Matching private contributions is a great idea. from Gulf Breeze / Fl by Jeff
Comment: Absolutely! When I lived in Virginia we took our vacations in Navarre for 15 years. The Zoo was always on our list every year to visit. Now that my Dad is retired, I am honored to be able to be a Docent at the Zoo. I have grown up with the Zoo and I have learned so much! from Gulf Breeze, FL by Angela
Comment: If we lose such a wonderful family attraction, the whole area will suffer. We don't have very many things a family can do together that doesn't cost a lot of money and that everyone, young and old can go to. Everyone has to get together as a community and SAVE OUR ZOO. Please from Gulf Breeze by L
Comment: I say yes, why not; we manage to send our money overseas to anyone with any kind of a cause, so why can't we start worrying about ourselves and take our hearts off our sleeves and put them back were they belong. A xoo is something that is truly educational and will teach anyone who goes to one something. So I say yes to sharing the educational costs to our younger generations. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: I have always visited the Zoo since I was small. It is very valuable to our community and teaching our children. It is also helpful attracting visitors which helps our local economy. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Andrea
