Nuclear Power: Do you think we should generate more nuclear power to reduce our dependence on foreign oil?
Comment: nuclear plants should have been build years ago. from pensacola, fla by roland
Comment: why were we not doing this decades ago? i have lived in places across the globe that is powered by nuclear energy...they did not have problems there...and paid the fraction of the cost of what we are paying here... from p'cola by h
Comment: Yes,very definitely. The mistake this country made was not building more back in the 70's when the momentum was on our side (the USA)to move ahead of the rest of the world for this technology. Instead of being allowed to continue in this country, large corporations chose to sell and give the technology to the rest of the world. Now we have to get back to what we should have done to begin with, but I truly believe this nation has the talent to not only catch up, but the will to do what we should have done to start with. Yes, we need to generate more nuclear power and not only reduce our dependence on foreign oil, but
stop the polutants from coal. Coal is also purchased from foreign sources because of the need for low sulfur requirements. So, Yes on nuclear and let move now. from Cantonment, Florida by Lynn
Comment: ONLY if a central waste disposal site is authorized, namely Yucca Mountain. from Milton, FL by Ian
Comment: If we can power ships with nuclear reactors why not use them for electric poewr. from Navarre, Fl. by C J
Comment: what are they waiting for? from Navarre/Florida by Eugene
Comment: We haven't started the permitting process for a new reactor in the US for almost 30 years. We are 30 years behind. We should start today. from cantonment/fl by gary
Comment: Remeber Chernobyl in 1986? Thad was a nuclear power plant disaster. How about solar power??? That works. from Pensacola, FL by Roberta
Comment: This is a no brainer to me. We should have started yesterday. from Navarre,Fl by Terry
Comment: Why not?!! Actually, it's time for all of our geniuses to stop giving excuses for why it won't work; and start to solve the problem. Granted it took generations to perpetuate our need for fossil fuels, but unless someone seriously starts looking for an alternative, it isn't going to happen. Trouble today is that there isn't enough people educated about the technology to "strike it like a match". And at the rate we're going, there isn't going to be anybody around smart enough to get a viable alternative. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: This is a major step in the right direction. Build them and they are there for a long time. Safety is high and longevity is great. A win win solution for the near term. from Pensacola by Jon
Comment: Yes! We need to diversify our energy source to reduce our dependence on any one source. from Milton, FL by Kim
Comment: We have 104 decrepit nuclear plants in the US that have NEVER paid for themselves. What will we do with all the nuclear waste from these plants?
Power companies should be mandated to install solar electric systems on homes and charge the home owner a monthly usage and maintenance fee. This would have an immediate benefit to Floridians, save the environment and not add nuclear waste to an already growing problem. from Pensacola by Jim
Comment: Yes we need nuclear plants, why is taking them so long to get them? from PENSACOLA, FL by Deborah
Comment: I believe that we should put more emphasis on solar and wind power. from Seminole, Al by Debra
Comment: We are so far behind other parts of the world in developing this source of power. I am glad tosee Florida facing forward in solving energy problems. Let's not stop now. by Anna
Comment: Most definatly. Nuclear
power is non-polluting with a
fuel that a little goes a long
way. We do not have to export
so many of our dollars paying
for uranium. On the Gulf
Coast we worry over oil rigs
leaking into the Gulf. In
Miami's Biscayne Bay the Cleanest water is right in front of the Turkey Point fac-
ility. from Pensacola, Florida by Robin
Comment: The is one idea to build more nuclear facilities in the country. But what about all the curde oil we have in reserve in this country and yea I would not mind drilling for oil off of the coasts of Florida but each offshore rig needs to be no closer than 50 miles from any of Florida's coast lines. from Pensacola Flordia by William
Comment: Absolutely from Mary Esther Fl by D
Comment: Let the desert people drown in their oil. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Robert
Comment: I think we should drill where ever we can for oir and natural gas, build as many nuclear plants as necessary, and any other means to get the U.S. off dependency of foreign oil. from pensacola fl by james
Comment: A long time coming. from Milton, Fl by John
Comment: Absolutely. Between nuclear and "clean burning" coal, we could put ourselves in a better position relative to foreign dependence. from Gulf Breeze by Don
Comment: Yes, but the nuclear plants will not change the demand for foreign oil. Oil used in power plants can not be used for gasoline. That oil has the least demand. from Bluewater Bay, FL by Bruce
Comment: Quit Waiting and build them. It is time to start cutting our dependence on these countries who have but one objective; killing all of us. And we should be drilling as well. from Pensacola by John
Comment: The small risk from nuclear power is acceptable - when compared to the very large and growing risk of depending on foreign oil. from Cantonment, FL by Myron
Comment: Yes, this is simply a no-brainer ..... unless you believe in the make believe movies from Hollywood. from Pensacola/Florida by Rick
Comment: Yes we need to build many more nuclear plants. They are clean, safe, economical way to produce electricity. from Crestview, FL by Ernest R.
Comment: I think ANYTHING that would help us become independant of the Middle East would be welcomed. This wold be more welcome if they would put one in the Pensacola area. from Pensacola by Danny

Then again, there is solar energy. What ever happened to that idea? from Pensacola by Danny
