I SUPPORT raising the toll |
|
| 79.83% |
I OPPOSE raising the toll |
|
Comment: i do support the raise in toll if it will help fund a FREE parking garage on the beach. i do oppose the wastful spending the SRIA does with its money instead of working on the infrastructure of the beach itself...hopefully, the beach itself will become less crowded because of the increased toll from p'cola fl by h
Comment: i would like to propose a different idea...let the size of the vehicles determine the cost of the toll...the big trucks and SUV should have to pay a higher toll..say $4-$5... compared to compacts that should pay 50 cents to a $1...those folks that afford to pay and run those behemoths should have to shoulder the heavier burden of paying the toll to get on the beach... from p'cola fl by h
Comment: I oppose any kind of tax. Tolls are taxes. They already have a hotel/motel/entertainment tax. Why don't we just have a 100 % tax and all of us apply for welfare. from Pensacola by James
Comment: I believe it should be raised. Improvements on Pensacola Beach brings more vactioners to the beach. I love seeing Pensacola Beach grow. from Cantonment FL by Christopher
Comment: I think with the economy the way it is today that raising the toll for a parking and skywalks should be put on hold until our economy starts to rebound. If the toll goes up people that don't have much money are not going to be able to enjoy the beach. from Milton Fl by Lisa
Comment: Well I wasn't going to comment until I read another comment about how people in SUV's and Trucks should have to pay a higher toll. That is discrimative and uncalled for Yes my wife and I both have trucks and it is a crunch with gas prices but neither one of us would get rid of our trucks because we don't feel safe in a compact car. I have seen what happens to people in compact cars when they are rear ended at a slow speed it is not a pretty sight. So to the poster that thinks we should have to pay more well we are paying more at the pump then you are and we should be able to go to the beach at the same price as everyone else. We should not be discrimatated toward just because we want to be safe. from Milton Fl by Craig
Comment: They can take the money slated for the "glorified" ballfield and use it for building the garage.
The money to be used for the Maratime Park is "surplus funding". Just use that funding and shelve the park until it can be a true Maritime Park! from Pensacola by Steve
Comment: Someone needs to remind this guy that we are in a recession and with the outrageous costs of gas many of us have little use ---if any for his garage anyway. We need jobs and $2 doesnt do it. Come on. from Pensacola by Terri
Comment: The traffic problem never would have been an issue if they hadn't let all those Hotels and Condominiums come in and build there. I have been in Pensacola for 20 yrs and what they have let happen is dispicable! It is their own fault things are like they are. The Hotels, Condos, and Businesses should pay for it! Not the voters! from Pensacola/FL by David
Comment: whats your plan b? you know none of us would go for this! from pensacola by ryan
Comment: There shouldn't be anymore skywalks or tall buildings it is bad enough with the sky now you can't enjoy the beach scenery when you drive by, now if it means fixing the road from Navarre and Pensacola Beach something that will help the beach business for both beaches and great for the consumer that spends more being able to drive all the way through, they would stop and shop. That would be great but I think it is to help the rich not the middle man or the visitors. And put the toll back on the Navarre Bridge to 1.00 and spread the well being of both beaches. from Gulf Breeze by Vicki
Comment: So, where are all the money that Pensacola Beach make during the height of the tourist season? If they are so hard up on money or they suffered bad business raise the taxes on the businesses that makes a ton of money from us. If they raise the toll, no one will come. from Milton, Fl by Abe
Comment: Isn't the SRIA extra tax enough? Up the annual pass price to $100.00.....the people on the beach can afford it. Why make the tourists pay more? Destin is free!!! from Pace by K
Comment: I think that it wouldn't hurt raising the toll. Since Escambia County keeps cutting funding to the SRIA and to the beach. Besides if you come to the beach a lot any ways than you should invest in a beach pass, since that price will remain the same. This is just a way for the beach to get at least some money from the tourist since the bed taxes (38% of it) DONT ALWAYS COME BACK TO THE BEACH. from Gulf Breeze by Nora
Comment: I live in town, and normally ride my 70 mpg motorcycle to Pensacola Beach. However, with the raise in bridge toll, it will be cheaper to go spend my weekend money on Perdido Key or Orange Beach. from Pensacola by Greg
Comment: I think that $2.00 is too much. If needed, consider raising it perhaps to $1.50. With the amount of people going over the bridge, this should be ample from Pensacola, Fl by Kornell
Comment: Raise it to five dollars. Maybe then Navarre and Orange beach may benefit from our stupidity. from pensacola fl by james
Comment: Absolutely not, is Buck Lee crzy? Does he have to pay high gas taxes? The man's a llon. Who needs a sky walk, how about food for our tables.? from navarre by pat
Comment: With the rising cost of gas, food, taxes, and insurance this is an unacceptable suggestion. The dollar toll to cross the bridge was originally implemented to pay for the bridge and was extended so money would continue to be raised after the bridge was paid for. Raising the cost to $2.00 is just another way to squeeze more revenue from the residents and visitors. from Pensacola, FL by Thomas
Comment: If they want to keep people away this is a good way to do it. The beach is not worth a 2 dollar toll. from pensacola by Kristy
Comment: The original toll $.50 was to pay for the intercoastal bridge. The toll was raised to $1.00 to pay for the new bridge (Bob Sikes. What is this hike for? by Dan
Comment: Why pay for roads that our tax dollars are supposed to be paying for!!! from Pensacola, Fl by Janet
Comment: These roads are funded by the Federal and State government tax dollars; Why should we have to pay more!!! from Pensacola, Fl by Rickie
Comment: lIKE TO GO TO THE RESTURANTS ON THE BEACH-IF TOLL RAISED WILL NOT GO TO THE BEACH AGAIN-IF THEY WANT TO RAISE THE TOLL LET THE BIG WHEELS LIKE BUCK LEE PAY IT. from pensacola/florida by ED
Comment: Once again the condo owners at the beach want to make sure that the average person will not damage their utopia. They need to remember on who's backs they have built their dreams and let all enjoy the view. from Pensacola/FL by Philip
Comment: I would support raising the toll if the money would go to our law enforcement. Now that amendendment 1 has ruined all their funding. from pensacola, fl by lauren
Comment: those folks owning SUVs and trucks that got offended for my idea...well, safety is one thing (though studies have concluded that these smaller vehicles are safer than before and lot better than sone SUVs and trucks). you folks are the main cause of the risine gas prices...if you can afford to put gas in your vehicles, then you can pay the higher fees...think of it as cost of owning the fuel sucking behemoths and if safety is the main concern...how many times do you and your wife get into an accident? or rammed you behemoths into a compact? from p'cola by h
Comment: Anyone can see we need more room to park on the beach. I wouldn't mind paying an extra dollar for a parking garage and a safe way to cross that busy street. from Pensacola by Athena
Comment: At this time raising the toll, along with gasoline prices, food prices, etc., it would be a badddd idea. from Pensacola, FL by James
Comment: OK, raise taxes here but make the toll a all day pass. Also, print coupons (on the back of the pass) good at the beach establishments. from mary esther, florida by allen
Comment: Wow, more parking and overhead walkways. Sounds great! But what's going to happen when another Ivan hits the area? Isn't Buck Lee and the Santa Rosa Island Authority aware of the fact that this area of Florida ranks second in the number of hurricanes to cross state borders; the Key's being number one. How are we to replace all this new expensive stuff after a hurricane hits when we can't even finish the road to Navarre? from Pensacola, FL by Kim
Comment: If you raise the price I will make sure I come and spend less. I will also tell everyone on the internet how corrupt and greedy Pensacola and the Beach are.The beach should be for everyone. Not just those who can afford it! from pensacola, fl by tess
Comment: This is the result of all those fools who voted for the Property Tax. They're getting what they deserve and it'll get worse. Besides, you failed to mention that when the SRIA built up its funds from 2002-04 the Commissioners took the bulk of the monies for their general fund..that is why there is no high rise parking and other improvements. I have no doubt the Commissioners will do it again, there are a lot of votes to be bought out there. from Pensacola by Bill
Comment: I oppose raising the toll, because Escambia County should pay for the parking garage, not the taxpayers from pensacola beach,fl by thomas
Comment: Clearly the politicians have been lobbied by the area businesses. Like thieves, either will gladly put their hands in our pockets. Enough! Where is the vote on this? Government by fiat is tyranny.
Best regards,
Bill from Lillian, Al. by Bill
Comment: Are they going to take advantage of the gas situation and those who have to stay home and who planned to go to local recreational/entertainment activities? Are they trying to keep all but the rich off the beach? Isn't the beach crowded enough without a parking garage so even more people will show up? Are the beach businesses worried that it will impact their bottom line? Don't they collect enough sales tax? from Pensacola, FL by Yvita
Comment: Let the condo and hotel owners pay for that. from Pensacola by Marcy
Comment: With all the rising costs and no raise in pay, it is going to be harder to go to Pensacola Beach as much as my family and I would like. from Pensacola/FL by Charles
Comment: When the bridges at pensacola beach and Navarre were erected, we were sold on the idea that once the bridges were paid for, the toll would end. We are just being mislead again from Pensacola, FL by Kevin
Comment: Any time they propose something, it really means they have already decided to do it. SRIA does not care what we think. I am just interested in who is going to make tons of money off of this project with our money. They have not told us that yet. from Pensacola, FL by Glenn
Comment: I am a contractor that works out there.Gas prices are hurting us enough. We recently had to add a fuel charge to our bills if the toll is raised we will have to add it to our bills. from Milton,Fl
Comment: My wife and I like to go to the beach for a nice Sunday brunch and raising the fare with increase in gas prices means we will have to look mainside for our outings. Besides why can't all of the hotels guest pay for the garage since SRIA appoved for them to stay longer. from Pensacola by Martin
Comment: ok by b
Comment: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !! from pensacola by paul
Comment: This would be a small price to pay to keep the beaches in good condition. by Patti
Comment: After the increase these people will whine because tourists are not comming to Pensacola beach, but going somewhere else. I they just won't be able to figure it out. It is a STUPID Idea!!!! from Pensacola, FL by Bill
Comment: With the increase in fuel cost it is no reason to increase tolls. Will have fewer people traveling to the beach anyhow. from Navarre, Fl. by C J
Comment: I support removing the toll altogeather. Prices at the beach are definately high enough to support the beach's overhead. from pensacola fl by james
Comment: In all my travels, I have only ever seen one toll booth taken down. Tolls are to pay for the road/bridge without 'taxes', but what happens when the item has been paid for many times over? "Maintenance" costs, and then, "why not keep the toll and put the money to other use - the public will not feel the difference". To increase the toll for any reason besides to pay for the road/bridge should be illegal. It isn't just the 'tourists who pay'... from Pensacola by Robert
Comment: the only downfall I see is those who need to cross the bridge on a daily conute. Those people dhould recieve a discounted price on a prepaid pass. Set up their account so that unused money is forfeited after 30 days from purchase. from pensacola, fl by kevin
Comment: This toll has been collected for so many years - has not the bill been paid? A tourist gimmick to increase Buck's stature and grab a few more bucks. GB to charge for investigating accidents, more beach tolls - drive away the traffic and the tourists Buck - you don't need either one it seems. This is one resident that will limit my visits from now on. Ft. Pickens was man attraction but what is being done about it? from Pensacola by Jon
Comment: all its going to do is deture people like me from going to the beach and spending my money somewhere else from milton fl by jerry
Comment: Even when I owned property on Pens Beach, I believed that the home/condo owners there should pay their fair share of taxes. There is no earthly reason why others should support their playground and I would strongly favor fair taxes over increases in the user fees.
Comment: We don't go to P'cola Beach 50 times a year. Bring the annual pass price down to $25 and maybe we would. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Bruce
Comment: Is it not expensive enough to travel to the beach with high gas prices? They want to charge us more at the toll too? from PENSACOLA by BRANDI
Comment: if the homeowners on the beach paid property tax there would be plenty of money from Pensacola Floida by Butch
Comment: We need better parking for the public and this is the best way to pay for it. from Pensacola Beach, FL by Judi
Comment: I have never lived anywhere where you had to pay to enjoy the beach. The fact that the taxes on everything in Pensacola beach is already set higher than any other area around should be sufficient. Paying 2 dollars is not only inconvienient but also not an understandable need. from Pensacola, FL by Leah
Comment: I REALLY THINK THAT IS CRAZY, BECAUSE OF THE GAS PRICES, NO ONE CAN AFFORD TO COME TO FLORIDA TO VISIT AS IT IS, AND AS YOU KNOW EVERYONE WANTS TO SEE PENSACOLA BEACH WHEN THEY COME, I HAVE FAMILY HERE RIGHT NOW FROM ARKANSAS VISITING,AND WE HAVE BEEN TO PEN,S BEACH TWICE, WE HAD TO TAKE 2 CARS BOTH TIMES, PLUS PAYING TO WALK ON THE PEER, IT HAS COST US ABOUT 20 DOLLARS FOR 8 PEOPLE AND 2 CARS,SO YES I OPPOSE RAISING THE TOLL from NAVARRE,FLORIDA by KELLY
Comment: i could see paying it, if a solution was taken care of fast, no drawn out deal use the money to reimburse the project, then when the solution was paid off reduce the price back to a dollar. from pcola by bob
Comment: I think the bridge toll is more than enough to pay for the costs and upkeep of the bridge. The beauty of Pensacola beach is the lack of huge buildings and parking garages. I would find things like fixing the road to Fort Pickens and Navarre to be a more productive.Look at all the lost revenue from camping ect. at Fort Pickens. We don't need a parking garage. from milton fl by vickie
Comment: yes it is about time! let those that want to go to a free beach go wherever that is free...sure hope it'll free up the parking spaces out there! from p'cola by h
Comment: What are they doing with the toll money they are already getting?? from pensacola by paul
Comment: Unprintable. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: Oppose, a 100% increase is unwarrented. a $1 is plenty... from FWB, FL by Jeff
Comment: No! The bridge toll trolls are out of control! $7 to cross Garcon Pt with a boat or trailer.. Ridiculous! from MILTON,FL by JOHN
Comment: Come on SRIA! Give us a break. The Navarre Beach bridge is FREE, so what's with increased fees on a bridge that's probably paid for? from Gulf Breeze, FL by Barry
Comment: none from pens. fl by E. Joseph
Comment: This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. That bridge has been paid for for years. The economy is doesn right now! All this will do is hit us while we are down. from Gulf Breeze/FL by Jessica
Comment: remember the deal, "tax-free for 99 years." find some other way to pay that besides the non-residents of the beach. from pensacola by scott
Comment: The bridge is PAID FOR. why is there a toll? Why did they do away with the toll at Navarre? from gulf breeze by jeff
Comment: WE HAVE BEEN PRICED OUT OF THE BEACH NOW,ENOUGH. from PENSACOLA FL by VINCENT
Comment: I think that the current fee is plenty. you raise the fee and less people will go to the beach. you want more people there - not less. from pensacola, fl by georgia
Comment: I don't think they need to raise the toll right now . from Pensacola ,FL. by Robert
Comment: maybe increase for out of towners, but locals are hit enough with lifes costs from Pensacola by Timothy
Comment: I oppose a 55 mph speed limit. I already drive a Geo Metro,45 mpg.If everybody else drove one, there would be NO oil crisis. Quit crying and sell your gas hogs. Why should I slow down so you can live the high life?????? from Gulf breeze,Fl by James
Comment: Wasn't the orginal plan for the toll on the briges to end once the bridge was paid for. If the SRIA needs the money from tolls why do they collect 2% Sales tax at beach Businesses. from Gulf Breeze Florida by Craig
