A state divided: Would you support or oppose a plan to divide Florida into two separate states?
Comment: Why would you split Florida in 2? That's not really natural at all! I was born and raised in FL not in some other state that shouldn't exist. I would be much happier to just leave the state alone! from Pensacola, FL by Teegan
Comment: I would support it, to a degree. Since I am going to Tampa to attend an in-state university. It would make me an out-of-state student if they split the state. But it would make the the two distictly different areas into two states that would be on different paths. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Mario
Comment: itsabout time that someone brought this out in the open
it has been a long time coming
too much of the goodies have been going to the richer part of the state let us have some of the bennys on the west side of the now capital from pensacola by gerald
Comment: I support the idea but i think west florida should be its own state.for years it seems like west and north florida has been forgotton in the minds of the florida legislation from pensacola by Mike
Comment: Just take a look at the difference between us and the rest of the state. The south get all the new development and money.Pensacola and north florida is left in the dirt, just take a look around from pensacola by Michael
Comment: Yes, I think we should split Florida. I truely agree that the cultures are different.... the climates are different.... and the politics are different. from Pensacola by Cynthia
Comment: I think it stinks. First they take away our state song, now they want our state. Are we really paying these representatives for these crazy ideas. from Pensacola, FL by J.W.
Comment: I think it's a great idea that shouldn't be lauged at. How is the state ever supposed to get anything done if there is always constant disagreement between the north and south? from Pensacola, FL by Matthew
Comment: We waste so much state money on southern Florida and they make the most money. Separating from them would only benefit northern Florida. by Karen
Comment: Northwest Florida has been "short changed" and even left off maps since the War of Northern Invasion. It is time for a separate state. from Pensacola, Fl. by Auby
Comment: I fully support it!! I get tired of all our money goin down south and always neglecting the people here in the NW. Its funny when u go anywhere especially down south there roads are alot better than here and if you think about it were the first county you enter coming from the west on I10 and we look terrible compared to alot of the counties down south and if it wasnt for hurr. ivan i dont think alot of the improvements being done now along I10 wouldnt be gettin done.If it would happen the south would realize very fast how dependant they are on the northern part of florida. from Pensacola by Eddy
Comment: Well would we devide Texas to? NO! We need to elect officials the don't enter office with hidden agendas that don't encompus the concerns of all of FL. from Crestview, FL by Robert
Comment: I think Florida should be seperated but it should be seperated from the time zone at the swannee river to the alabama , Florida line. I think this part should be given to Alabama and let the rest of it be Florida. If we were in Alabama we wouldn't have all the extra taxes and higher gas prices. Fas is 10 cents cheaper than Florida from Crestview, fl by Paula
Comment: Would there then become a new State or would North West Fl become a part of Ala.? If there is the idea of making North West Fl. a part of Ala I am not for it at all, I moved to Florida not Alabama and I don't think the government should make the decision about Floridians becoming residents of Alabama. from Pensacola Fl by Don
Comment: Oh, yes, I have said for years that we need to be divided. After that mess of the elections and the hanging tags. Too many people that did not grow up in FL want to come here and mess up everything. Dividing is a great idea...like SC & NC; SD & ND. from Pensacola, FL by Marilyn
Comment: they are very different than us and if they all want a divide let them have it,maybe northwest fl. will get more attention from pensacola,fl. by carol
Comment: I oppose this very much what fool thought of that idea, that would lead to more taxes, and if it would pass what next north and south Alabama, north and south California, and so on
Comment: Since when does the South Florida population have any idea that North Florida exists? We are acutely aware that there is a South Florida, but we are about as alike as wallpaper and a lizard are. Any money that goes to South Florida would be for their use, and money for North Florida would be for their use...makes perfect sense to me. Our votes in North Florida are consistently overriden by the voters in South Florida,...the list goes on. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Lunell
Comment: THAT IS THE MOST CRAZIEST IDEA EVER. WHY DIVIDE FLORDIA. ONE STATE STARTS THEN OTHERS. DON'T YOU THINK WE HAVE ENOUGH PROBLEMS AS IT IS. NEED TO HELP OUR OWN IN THE UNITED SATES. HAS ANYONE NOTICE OR CARE ABOUT THEM, WHAT'S NEXT? FORGET IT. WE SAY NO from Navarre,Florida by Danny&Pat
Comment: why would they do that its absolutely ridiculous. from pensacola , FL by alex
Comment: I think this move would benefit NW Florida greatly. Maybe we could then follow Alabama's lead and rebuild our infrastructure at a faster rate than Florida has been doing. They seem to have it together with their budget and growth, especially in S Baldwin Co.It might also help our Home owner's insurance problem to divide the risk. from Pensacola Fl by Joan
Comment: i think they should leave florida the way it is, because even if you change it into two states things are still not going to change because you made north and a south. from pensacola,fl by kathrine
Comment: NO! NO! NO! from Pensacola, FL by Scott
Comment: Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! divided we fall mean something to these folks? from pcola by h
Comment: Whoever thought of this harebrained idea should have their head examined. The citizens of South Florida elected their own representatives in the state Senate. If they don't like what the State is doing, replace those representatives. That's why they're REPRESENTATIVES, they're suppose to represent the particular place they ran for. If they are sitting on their butts in the capitol doing nothing, replace them. Splitting the state is not the solution. If they want a new state, move to California and good luck. from Milton, Fl by Abe
Comment: Is this really up for debate? Out of all the things that people could be discussing (budget cuts on schools, falling standards of education, the gradual destruction of the environment, exorbenant gas prices and food prices and more things than I can list)they are talking about dividing the state in two? Obviously these people have nothing better to do than to be greedy and find another reason to consider one person better than another instead of being together to create a better state of Florida. I cannot believe this idea is even up for discussion. I only hope that the people with these ideas figure out how wrong they are and rescind these statements that could only hurt the state of Florida and provide a precident of indecision for the rest of the United States. from Pensacola FL by Joe
Comment: Okay, lets sit down and think here. What are the point of taxes? Internal Improvements of the state. Its understood that South Florida is the richer part of the state, and North Florida is the poorer part of the state. Now think...if the the North is already poorer than the South WITH the tax dollars from the South, imagine what it would be like without that help. Any person living in North Florida would be a fool to agree with that. And the South would be foolish to separate, because people from the North give them money all the time when they go down to the South for vacationing. Also, the deal with the "two different worlds" theory, that borders on racism...I hope people have realized that. Yeah there are more people who speak other languages down there than up in the North, but that doesn't mean we should separate. It borders on intolerance and racism. Other states are like that too, should we separate them as well? Should we separate other instituions based on racial lines as well? I think not. from Pensacola FL by Jak
Comment: LEAVE FLORIDA ALONE!!!!!!!!!!! from milton, fl by laura
Comment: South Florida already does not think we exist every see any of the maps of the State down there. Were not on them! from Pace Fl by Patrick
